What a photo can and cannot tell

The scanner locates cards in your photo, cuts each one out, and matches its artwork against every English and Japanese card priced on this site. A clear match is labeled with high confidence; close calls provide alternate candidate matches in a dropdown menu.

Same artwork across sets: When the exact same art appears in multiple sets (such as reprints, promos, or jumbo editions), a static photograph cannot guess which product it came from. The scanner flags these cards and provides a selector so you can pick the exact set.

Holofoil vs Non-Holo: A photograph cannot reliably tell whether a card is standard, holofoil, or reverse holo because static images lack lighting reflections. The price displayed reflects the primary market printing; tap through to the card's page to view every individual printing and condition.

Getting a clean scan

  • Even lighting: Lay cards flat with light coming from above or behind rather than direct windows to minimize glare on sleeves or binder pockets.
  • Focus and framing: Keep all cards within the frame and tap to focus. Nine cards across a phone photo is ideal; up to thirty is supported.
  • Angle flexibility: Cards can be in sleeves, binder sleeves, loose, or tilted at angles. The detector automatically straightens each card upright.

Common questions

Do my photos get uploaded to a server?

No. Card detection, perspective warping, neural embedding, and similarity search run 100% locally inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device.

Can I add scanned cards to my collection?

Yes. Each identified card has an "+ Add to collection" button, and an "Add all to collection" button allows saving all scanned cards into your browser collection in one click.

How many cards can I scan in one photo?

You can photograph single cards or binder pages with up to 30 cards in one shot. The detector locates each card, crops it upright, and matches each one independently.

Why can't holofoil and reverse holos be determined automatically?

A static photo cannot reliably capture holographic sheen or foil patterns without tilt and motion. The scanner displays the market price for the primary printing; click through to the card page to see each foil variant.

What if multiple cards share the same artwork?

When identical card art was reprinted across multiple sets, promo releases, or jumbo cards, the scanner identifies all matching twin sets and lets you choose the exact one.
